Changing location on iOS 17, 18, 26 and 27
Updated · By the Geovo team
You can change an iPhone's location without a jailbreak on every current iOS version, as long as Developer Mode is on and your tool supports how that version connects. Geovo works on iOS and iPadOS 17.4 or later. It has been verified on real hardware on iOS 26.6.1 (from both Mac and Windows), on iOS 27 and on an iPad; iOS 17.4 to 25 are supported but not yet verified on hardware.
| iOS version | Geovo | Verified on hardware | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| iOS 16 and earlier | Not supported | No | Update the iPhone to iOS 17.4 or later |
| iOS 17.0 to 17.3 | Not supported | No | Update to 17.4 or later (Settings › General › Software Update) |
| iOS 17.4 to 18 | Supported | Not yet | Same connection as later versions; needs Developer Mode |
| iOS 26 | Supported | Yes: iPhone on iOS 26.6.1, from Mac and Windows | Also tested on cellular and in Airplane Mode |
| iOS 27 | Supported | Yes | Uses Apple's newer developer disk image, which Geovo downloads and mounts for you |
| iPadOS 17.4 and later | Supported | Yes, on a real iPad | The iPhone app runs natively on iPad since 0.2.0 |
Why iOS 17.4 is the floor
iOS 17 changed how computers talk to an iPhone's developer services: tools now open a secure tunnel to the iPhone first. iOS 17.4 added a simpler way to open that tunnel, and Geovo is built on it, so it needs iOS 17.4 or later. If your iPhone is on an older version, update it in Settings › General › Software Update.
What every version needs
- Developer Mode (since iOS 16): Settings › Privacy & Security › Developer Mode. If the switch is missing, see how to turn on Developer Mode.
- Apple's developer disk image: a small set of developer tools the iPhone loads on demand. Geovo uses the copy that comes with Xcode if you have it, or downloads it and mounts it for you. iOS 27 uses a newer kind of image than earlier versions; Geovo handles both.
- Trust: unlock the iPhone and tap Trust when you first plug it in.
Changing location on iOS 26
- Download Geovo for Mac or Windows 10/11 and plug in the iPhone.
- Tap Trust, then turn on Developer Mode and let the iPhone restart.
- Search for a place or click the map, and click Teleport. Or use Drive here, a route, the joystick, or a GPX or KML file.
- Click Return to Real Location when you're done.
The same steps work on iOS 17.4, 18 and 27. To keep going with the cable out, install Geovo's iPhone app: change location without a computer.
Changing location on iOS 27
The steps are the same as on iOS 26. On iOS 27, Geovo's iPhone app can also create its own pairing on the iPhone ("Pair on this iPhone"), which helps if the pairing made during setup is lost. Installing and renewing the app still happens from a computer.
After an iOS update
If Geovo stops connecting after an iOS update, unlock the iPhone, tap Trust if asked, and click Check now in Geovo's Connect screen: it checks each step (trust, iOS version, Developer Mode, developer disk image, connection) and shows which one needs attention. Check the compatibility page and the changelog for the latest verified versions.
What doesn't change with the iOS version
On every version, a location changer changes the GPS position apps get from Location Services, not your IP address. Since iOS 15, apps can ask whether a location came from software simulation (Apple: CLLocationSourceInformation), and Geovo doesn't try to hide simulation. Restarting the iPhone always restores the real location.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I change my location on iOS 18?
- Yes. Geovo supports iOS 17.4 and later, including iOS 18, with Developer Mode on. iOS 18 hasn't been verified on our own hardware yet; iOS 26 and 27 have.
- Does Geovo work on iOS 26?
- Yes. It has been verified on an iPhone on iOS 26.6.1 from both Mac and Windows, including on cellular and in Airplane Mode.
- Does Geovo work on iOS 27?
- Yes, verified on hardware. iOS 27 uses Apple's newer developer disk image, which Geovo downloads and mounts automatically.
- Why doesn't Geovo support iOS 17.0 to 17.3?
- Geovo uses the developer connection Apple made available from iOS 17.4. Update the iPhone in Settings › General › Software Update.
- Do I need to update Geovo after an iOS update?
- Geovo checks for updates when it opens and every few hours, and offers new versions in the app. After an iOS update, open Geovo and run its checks; it shows any step that needs attention.
