Why the Geovo iPhone app renews every 7 days
Apps installed with a free Apple Account run for 7 days. Here's why, and how to renew Geovo in about a minute without losing anything.
Geovo isn't in the App Store: Apple doesn't allow location-simulation apps there. So Geovo installs the iPhone app for you using your own Apple ID, the same way developers put their own apps on their phones.
The 7-day rule
Apple signs apps installed this way with a certificate that lasts 7 days for a free Apple Account (a year with a paid Apple Developer account). When it runs out, iOS won't open the app until it's renewed. That's Apple's rule, and it applies to every app installed this way, not just Geovo.
How to renew (about a minute)
- Plug your iPhone into the computer with Geovo on it.
- Click Renew (Geovo shows it on the iPhone card, and a banner when you're close).
- Sign in with your Apple ID when asked. That's it.
Your saved places, routes and settings stay on the phone.
Reminders
- The iPhone app reminds you 2 days and 12 hours before it expires.
- The desktop app shows a red Renew banner whenever your plugged-in iPhone expires within 48 hours.
Why not a year?
With a paid Apple Developer account ($99/year), apps last a year. If you have one, sign in with it and Geovo lasts a year between renewals.
