Why Geovo uses LocalDevVPN
LocalDevVPN lets Geovo reach your iPhone's own developer service without a computer. It carries no internet traffic and nothing leaves your phone.
When your iPhone is plugged into a computer, Geovo talks to the iPhone's built-in developer service over the cable. Apple uses that same service for Xcode's location simulation.
With no computer, the Geovo app on the iPhone needs to reach that same service on the phone itself. iOS only allows it over a network connection, so Geovo needs a small helper that makes the connection possible on the phone.
What LocalDevVPN is
- A free App Store app (made by a separate developer) that creates a tiny, private network *inside* your iPhone.
- It uses iOS's VPN feature only because that's the only way to create that private connection. It is not a VPN in the usual sense.
- It does not carry your internet traffic, change your IP address or send anything anywhere. Your browsing and apps work exactly as before.
What it means for you
- You'll see a small VPN icon in the status bar while the helper is on. That's expected.
- Start the helper once from Geovo (Start the Helper), or turn on Automatic Connection in Geovo's settings so Geovo starts it for you.
- If Geovo ever says the helper is off, tap the notification: Geovo opens LocalDevVPN, you tap Connect, and your location comes back automatically.
Privacy
Nothing leaves your phone. The places you pick are never sent to us or to the helper.
