Troubleshooting
iPhone location stuck in the wrong place? How to get your real location back
Updated · By the Geovo team
If your iPhone shows a place you're not at after using a location changer or Xcode, a simulated location is probably still active: iOS keeps it even after the app that set it has closed. Stop it in that tool, or restart the iPhone, which always clears a simulated location. If it's still wrong after a restart, the cause is ordinary GPS trouble, and the fixes below cover that too.

Fix it in this order
Most "stuck" locations are a simulation that was never stopped. Work down this list and stop as soon as Maps shows where you really are.
- Stop the simulation in the tool that started it. In Geovo, tap Return to Real Location on the iPhone, or click Stop on the computer. In Xcode, choose Don't Simulate Location in the debug bar.
- Restart the iPhone. A restart always clears a simulated location, whichever tool set it.
- Refresh the GPS. Turn Airplane Mode on for a few seconds and off again, then open Maps outdoors or near a window and give it a minute.
- Check the settings. Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services must be on; for the app showing the wrong place, check that Precise Location is on. In Settings › General › Date & Time, turn on Set Automatically.
- Reset Location & Privacy as a last step: Settings › General › Transfer or Reset iPhone › Reset › Reset Location & Privacy. It doesn't erase data, but every app will ask for location permission again.
Why a simulated location can outlast the app
A simulated location lives in iOS, not in the app that set it. If you force-quit a location app, pull the cable mid-simulation, or close Xcode without stopping, iOS keeps reporting the last simulated point. It stays until a tool tells iOS to stop, or until the iPhone restarts.
With Geovo, that means:
- Force-quit the iPhone app: the last point stays. Open Geovo and tap Return to Real Location, or restart the iPhone.
- Unplugged the cable mid-route: open Geovo on the computer and press Stop, or restart the iPhone.
- Ran out of free minutes: Geovo returns the iPhone to its real location by itself.
- Want it to end on its own: set Auto-stop before you start, and Geovo hands the real location back after the time you choose.

| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Maps shows you at one fixed spot that doesn't move | A simulated location is still active | Stop it in the tool, or restart the iPhone |
| The location moves along a route you didn't take | A simulated route is still playing | Press Stop or Return to Real Location; restart if the app is closed |
| The location is a few blocks off, or jumps around | Weak GPS indoors, or Precise Location off for that app | Go outdoors, turn on Precise Location, refresh with Airplane Mode |
| One app is wrong, Maps is right | That app's cached location or permission | Close and reopen the app; check its Location setting |
| Websites show the wrong country or city | They use your IP address, not GPS | Location changers don't affect this; check your VPN or network |
How to tell whether the location is simulated
In Geovo, the pill at the top of the iPhone app says Simulating while a simulated location is active, and the card at the bottom shows the place and how long it has been active. If Geovo shows nothing active but Maps still puts you somewhere else, a different tool may have set it: restart the iPhone.
If the iPhone has been restarted and the location is still wrong, it isn't a simulation. Use steps 3 to 5 above, and if nothing helps, Apple Support can check the iPhone's GPS hardware.
Stop simulating in emergencies
While a location is simulated, emergency calls, crash detection and location sharing with your own contacts may report the simulated place. Stop simulating whenever your real location matters.
Use it responsibly
Geovo is for lawful use only: testing apps and websites, keeping your exact position private from an app that doesn't need it, demos, travel planning and teaching how location services work. Don't use any location tool to mislead people who rely on your location, or to break the terms of an app or service you've agreed to. Stop simulating whenever your real location matters, for example in an emergency.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is my iPhone location stuck after using a location changer?
- iOS keeps a simulated location even after the app that set it closes. Stop it in that app (in Geovo, Return to Real Location) or restart the iPhone, which always clears it.
- Does restarting the iPhone remove a fake location?
- Yes. A restart clears any location set through Apple's developer location service, which is what Xcode, Geovo and other no-jailbreak tools use.
- Will Reset Location & Privacy delete my data?
- No. It resets location and privacy permissions only, so apps ask for access again. It isn't needed to clear a simulated location; a restart does that.
- My location is right in Maps but wrong on a website. Why?
- Websites usually locate you by IP address, which location changers don't touch. Check whether a VPN or your network is causing it.
- How do I stop Geovo if I closed the app?
- Open Geovo again and tap Return to Real Location (or press Stop on the computer), or simply restart the iPhone.
