How to change your iPhone's location without a jailbreak

What does "without jailbreak" actually mean?

It means the iPhone's operating system stays exactly as Apple ships it. Instead of patching iOS, a tool asks the developer location service that Apple includes for testing to report a different position. Apps then read that position through Location Services as usual. Your warranty, updates and security settings are untouched.

A jailbreak, by contrast, removes iOS restrictions by exploiting security flaws. It's rarely available for current iOS versions, it lags behind updates, and it weakens the phone's security. For changing location it's simply unnecessary.

Why is Developer Mode needed?

Developer Mode is Apple's switch that lets a trusted computer use developer features on an iPhone, including location simulation. Apple's documentation says it protects people from unintentionally installing harmful software and reduces the attack surface of developer-only features, so it's off by default and needs a restart to turn on.

You'll find it in Settings › Privacy & Security › Developer Mode. It usually appears only after the iPhone has been connected to a computer that asks for it. Apple explains the details in Enabling Developer Mode on a device. You can turn it off again at any time.

How do you change your location without jailbreaking, step by step?

Install a desktop tool that uses the developer service, connect the iPhone once, turn on Developer Mode, then pick a place and teleport. With Geovo it takes a few minutes the first time, and afterwards you can also install the iPhone app to change location with no cable at all.

1. Download Geovo for Mac or Windows 10/11 from the download page. On Windows, install iTunes from apple.com first for Apple's iPhone driver.
2. Connect your iPhone with a USB cable, unlock it and tap Trust.
3. Turn on Developer Mode: Settings › Privacy & Security › Developer Mode. The iPhone restarts; unlock it and confirm.
4. Pick a place: search an address or tap the map, then click Teleport.
5. Move if you need to: play a route at walking, cycling or driving speed, use the joystick, or import a GPX file.
6. Go back: click Return to Real Location. Real GPS returns straight away.

Is changing your location without a jailbreak safe?

Yes, in the sense that nothing on the iPhone is modified or hacked. The developer service is Apple's own, Developer Mode can be switched off, and restarting the iPhone always restores your real location. The main safety rules are to download tools only from their official site and to keep an easy way back.

• Return to Real Location: Geovo keeps this one tap away on the computer and on the iPhone.

What doesn't change when you change GPS?

Only the GPS position that apps read from Location Services changes. Your IP address, carrier, time zone and Wi-Fi network stay the same, so websites that locate you by IP still see your real region. Apps can also ask iOS whether a location was simulated by software, so don't assume it's invisible.

Which iPhones and iOS versions work?

Geovo needs an iPhone on iOS 17 or later with Developer Mode on, and we've verified it on iOS 26. It's built for iPhone only. On the computer side it runs on Macs with Apple Silicon or Intel and on Windows 10 and 11.
